Lead single “Prologue” and “Main Title” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. When you buy a Dave Grusin album, you know exactly what you’re getting! It’s natural for Dave Grusin to take a stab at ‘Prologue’ considering her long-professed love for Orkrist. This is one of the best cd’s i have heard through the whole thing.
Main Title sets the tone for the entire album. Samurai Source is the albums biggest surprise. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. 20 Year Montage is astounding work of Dave Grusin. Scrapbook Montage/Scrapbook Epilogue - To me, this is the best song on the Yakuza. Kendo Sword Ritual/Alter Ego/Night Rescue/Amputation/Amputation (Alternate) - Okay, I just talked about depth. Man Who Never Smiles is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. The opening track Tanner To Tono/Tono Bridge/The Bath is very much like you would expect from other albums. In Girl And Tea you won’t find any flashy solos. Pavane - arguably the best track on Yakuza album. Get Tanner gets you up and jumping. I believe Breather/Final Assault is one of the most exquisite, heartfelt songs ever written. So much energy, so exciting a sound.Still going through Yakuza and coming to appreciate No Secrets more and more with every listen. Put Sayonara into car stereo for your highway driving A unique and uplifting song. One listen to the sheer beauty of Bows/End Title (Coda) was all I needed. The song feels complete. Bluesy Combo - another great track from the Yakuza album. 20 Year Montage/Scrapbook Montage (Film Mix) is a very catchy tune. End Title (Film Version) as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Only The Wind is another strong production from Dave Grusin.
