The Collection carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Sandie Shaw on ‘Struttin’ rag’. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Sandie Shaw energies, virtually a rebirth. The Collection is the best essence of Sandie Shaw.
Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. Little boy, little boy, who made your britches is worth the money. Haag city dance sets the tone for the entire album. Music and lyrics of See that girl sitting on the fence creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. I hope to keep hearing Sandie Shaw works for a long time to come. When I listen to Bill Bailey in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Hard hearted Hannah has a fun tempo. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. Twelve sticks pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. Powder rag - I just love it. The song A salty dog rag ending is my favorite… so catchy! This track is full of harmonies and gets The Collection off to a relaxing start. Sister Kate’s syncopated dance is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. Slippin’ till my gal comes in partner is the first taste of the new album. Jealous is perfect work of Sandie Shaw. Franklin blues - Sandie Shaw first major hit.
