Since completing 1975’s ‘Change (Makes You Wanna Hustle)’, Donald Byrd fulfilled their contract with SixSteps records and where under no obligation to release another album. Self-described as Jazz: Funk with lots of words, Donald Byrd comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. On the Estonia charts, superstar Donald Byrd’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. Places and Spaces is the best essence of Donald Byrd.
Wind Parade - My least favorite song on this album. I find myself hearing bits of (Fallin’ Like) Dominoes here and there throughout my waking hours. Music and lyrics of Places and Spaces creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is You and the Music because the melody in the chorus is so good. Opening track Night Whistler shows the best of Donald Byrd. This track is just fantastic from start to finish.
